PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION

Teachers should prepare lessons in advance, with the QEP program in mind. Lessons should be planned for the diverse students in the classroom who all have different ways of learning. In this case, teachers should develop a variety of teaching techniques in order for all students to learn affectively. Teachers should keep the multiple intelligences in mind when planning for instruction to keep all students on task and motivated. I believe lesson plans should incorporate cross-curricular learning, as mentioned in the QEP, in order for students to be well-rounded individuals who can make connections between topics. I also think lesson plans should be relevant to the material being taught in class and to what students experience in their day-to-day lives.
Teachers, like their students, are always learning. It is important for teachers to take notes about their lesson plans in order to modify them (if necessary) for the future. Sometimes, things do not always go according to plan, and teachers need to recognize that things may go wrong. Each group of students is different, and therefore teachers should modify their lesson plans based on the group of students they are faced with. Also, sometimes a teachable moment may occur. Rather than sticking to what is planned, it’s important to capture certain moments and be spontaneous when necessary.
Here is a lesson plan that I developed, which reflects the goals and requirements of the QEP. Through cross-curricular learning, students can make connections in their math class and social studies. It is also important for a teacher to provide their students with a rubric in order for them to be aware of what is expected.
